Our recent native SDK releases introduced MatrixScan Count (available from 6.15). It allows you to embed fast and accurate barcode counting into your application with just a few lines of code, reducing development time from months to hours.
We’ve also released the 6.0+ major version of the WebSDK. This includes a more flexible architecture, updated look and feel for key UI elements and the ability to scan the visual inspection zone on the front of drivers licenses and ID cards.
MatrixScan Count
MatrixScan Count is an out-of-the-box scan and count solution for counting and receiving multiple items at once. It provides real-time feedback on scanning progress using an augmented reality overlay and includes pre-built user interface elements.
MatrixScan Count is part of Scandit’s Data Capture SDK and is implemented through the Barcode Count for iOS or Barcode Count for Android data capture mode.
Even more global coverage with a smaller SDK size
Our scanning can now easily handle common printing defects in MRZ codes, and supports the following documents issued by People’s Republic of China:
- Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong & Macau Residents (港澳居民來往內地通行證),
- Exit-Entry Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macau (往来港澳通行证)
- Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents (台灣居民來往大陸通行證),
- Exit-Entry Permit for Travelling to and from Taiwan (往来台灣通行证).
It’s also easier than ever before to use. The Native SDK 6.15 release for Android or iOS comes with a 40% reduction in SDK size. The Web SDK now also has ID scanning feature parity with the native SDK, meaning you can scan IDs with PDF417 barcodes, machine readable zones or visual inspection zones directly from your web app.
WebSDK 6.0+ (Stable) Release
We’ve released a major version for WebSDK, including:
- UI elements (viewfinders and scan feedback) are now aligned with the UI of the Native SDK. For example, 6.0+ now has the same viewfinder configuration options available in the Native SDK. This greatly improves the scanning experience.
- More modular API to provide developers with more flexibility.
- Support for front-of-card ID scanning in addition to MRZ and PDF17.
Guide: Best practices for usability
Choosing the right scanning modality for your use case and physical set-up, and implementing the appropriate interactions, are critical factors that will determine the overall usability and the resulting user adoption of your app
Our guide includes visual examples from real-world scenarios, best practices for when to pause the camera, when to use continuous scanning, what to do when codes are crowded, and more.
This example from our guides demonstrates a list building pattern we recommend for Self-Scanning. Here, the camera is paused between scans, preserving battery while the customer finds their next item. Scanned item is added to the top of the list with the quantity toggle expanded. Guidance to resume scanning is shown.
